OUT IN BOXES FOR ‘SHACK-A-THON’

What’s
it like to be homeless?
Students at Adrian College found out
first-hand when they slept outside in cardboard boxes
on Sept. 16. It was part of Shack-A-Thon, an event organized
by the Adrian College chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
“There are two reasons why we’re
doing this,” said Amanda Halbersma, Adrian junior
and president of the chapter. “One is to see what
it’s like to be homeless. The other is that because
of Hurricane Katrina, there are a lot of people without
homes, and we want to raise awareness about that.”
According to College Chaplain
Chris Momany, students have shown a lot of interest
in Habitat this year, and are an energetic group. The
Habitat chapter is one of several active groups that
is part of the Religious Life Council.
