'SAFER SPRING BREAK' PROGRAM FOCUSES ON ALCOHOL USE posted 2/14/03

To draw attention to people who are impacted by alcohol, more than 40 Adrian College students dressed in white and took a vow of silence on Feb. 12.

The demonstration, organized by the AC health center, student services, and campus safety, led up to an educational program that evening called "Safer Spring Break." The event was in lieu of a spring break program. It started with a photo and poster viewing of actual victims that were some way involved or impacted by alcohol. Students were then directed to a movie area where they viewed "Breaking the Silence and Wasted Youth," and another movie. Also reviewed were statistics from the National College Health Assessment completed on campus last spring. At the end, there was a time for students to process the event with facilitators.

Silent - Some of the students who dressed in white and took the vow of silence included (from left) freshman Greg Dalida (Clinton Twp., Mich.), junior Meghan Young (Beverly Hills, Mich.), Junior Erin Scott (Wayne, Mich.), and freshman Erin Sawden (Trenton, Mich.).
