Political Science Department to host public talk on September 13

ADRIAN, MI. – Award-winning investigative journalist Radley Balko set to give public talk at 12pm on September 13, 2011 in the Adrian College Tobias Room. Radley Balko is set to speak about “Militarizing Main Street: The Rise of SWAT Teams in America.”

Senior Writer and Investigative Reporter for the Huffington Post, Balko’s work has led to the release of a wrongly convicted 13 year old murder suspect, led to the firing of a corrupt medical examiner, and saved a man from death row. A persistent critic of the war on drugs, he is the author of the widely noted Cato report “Overkill: The Rise of Paramilitary Police Raids in America.”

Balko is hosted by the Political Science Department, with support from the George Romney Institute for Law and Public Policy and the Adrian College Institute for Ethics. There is no cost to attend this event, however seating is limited and offered at a first come, first serve basis. For more information please contact Political Science Chair James Hanley at 264-3891 or jhanley@adrian.edu.
