PLANETARIUM COMMEMORATES NATIVE
AMERICAN CULTURE AND 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF LEWIS &
CLARK EXPEDITION posted
11/3/05
In honor of
the 200th anniversary of the expedition of Lewis and
Clark, Adrian College's Robinson Planetarium presents
two commemorative events.
The first event, "An Evening
of Native American Stories Under the Stars" will
feature Reuben Honahnie, a member of the Hopi Tribe.
On Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. under a canopy of autumnal constellations
in the planetarium, Honahnie will share his stories
about Hopi Culture.
Honahnie is also scheduled to speak
at 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 4 in room 207 in Peelle Hall,
where he will share stories from his culture about the
sun, moon and stars.
Honahnie currently resides in Moenkopi, AZ on the Hopi
reservation. He attended Northern Arizona University
and is an interpretative park ranger in the Flagstaff
Area National Monuments.
The second event, "Navigating
with Lewis & Clark," commemorates the 200th
anniversary of the Lewis & Clark expedition up the
Missouri River and across the Rocky Mountains to the
Pacific Ocean. This event will combine a travelogue
of the exploration by the Corps of Discovery across
the country with the astronomy used by these great explorers
as written in their journals. This event is scheduled
for 7 p.m. on Nov. 9, Nov. 17 and Nov. 19.
Special shows for school groups can be scheduled for
any of these events by calling Dr.
Sarah Hanson at 517-264-3944. Peelle Hall is located
at the corner of Charles Street and Williams Street.
