MAY AND MAGNELL TO SPEAK

The department of philosophy/religion
announces that two philosophers are scheduled to visit
the Adrian College campus. Both presentations are intended
for a general audience.

Tom May, “Funding Agendas: Has Bioterror Defense
Been Over-Prioritized?”
May is director of the graduate program
in bioethics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His
interest is the intersection of bioethics and political
philosophy. He is the author of numerous papers and
two books, the most recent “Bioethics In a Liberal
Society: The Political Framework of Bioethics Decision-Making,”
from Johns Hopkins University Press. He is also an ethics
advisor for the Florida Department of Public Health,
and is on the editorial board of the International Journal
of Ethics.

Tom Magnell, “Life, Liberty, and the Problem of
Weapons of Mass Destruction”
Tom Magnell is a member of the philosophy department
at Drew University and the chair of the medical humanities
program in the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies.
He is also a research fellow of the Chinese Academy
of Social Sciences in the Institute of Philosophy, the
president of the International Society for Value Inquiry,
and the editor in chief of the Journal of Value Inquiry.
He has written numerous papers and edited three books
on issues in ethics, the most recent being “Values
and Education.”
