ADRIAN COLLEGE 'OPERA WORKSHOP' posted 10/28/04

The Lenawee Community Chorus and students from the Adrian College music department will present several dramatic musical scenes and famous choruses on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. in Dawson Auditorium.

Love, laughter, and tragedy- this music has it all. Come enjoy an hour of singing as the Lenawee Community Chorus (LCC) and Adrian College students apply their talents to the art of dramatic opera. Admission is $5 at the door.

Dr. Thomas Hodgman, artistic director of the LCC, and Elizabeth Major, director of the Opera Workshop at Adrian College, began a collaboration to develop this program back in August 2004.

"I saw it as a tremendous opportunity for two vibrant music programs to join forces and share their musical talents. The students in the Opera Workshop program at Adrian College have really taken the stage under Ms. Major's instruction. I hope that our Adrian community will come and see what fine young musicians are budding at this institution," stated Hodgman.

The LCC is starting it 37th concert season with this performance of opera arias and choruses. Many of the singers in LCC have also sung in opera and musical productions at the Croswell, and more specifically with Opera!Lenawee.

"This music is great fun to sing, and the chorus members appreciate the opportunity to sing this kind of literature," stated Hodgman. Hodgman has served as musical director for several college opera productions in upstate New York, New Jersey and Michigan. "The music is exhilarating for the singers because it is so physical. It takes every ounce of your body to make the sound required for opera. We are having a lot of fun preparing for this event and I hope our audience will be ready for an exciting afternoon."

This concert is open to the public. Admission is $5.Dawson Auditorium is located on Charles Street on the Adrian College campus. For more information, call 517-265-5161, ext. 4468.
