JAZZ IMPROVISATION
WORKSHOP PLANNED IN JULY posted
6/21/06
Adrian College will host its first
annual Jazz Improvisation Workshop from July 24-27.
Anyone who plays a musical instrument
can participate, teen-age or older. Participants can
expect sessions on playing in a combo, listening to
jazz, practice techniques, Latin percussion performance,
how to read a fake book, and lots of attention on their
instrument of choice.
The workshop will end with a “jam
session” concert (free public admission) that
will feature participants and faculty.
Dr. Marty Marks, Adrian College band
director, will host the workshop.
Workshop faculty consists of respected
professional musicians from southeast Michigan and northwest
Ohio, including Scott Kretzer (percussion), Dick Lange
(guitar), Pete Ford (piano), Aaron Keaster (acoustic
and electric bass), Brad Sharp (trumpet), Scott Rogers
(trombone), and Marty Marks (woodwinds).
Tuition for all four days is only
$150. Participants who live outside the Lenawee County
area may reserve lodging and meals for an additional
cost.
The workshop is scheduled 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m. each day.
To register or ask questions,
contact Dr. Marty Marks at 517-264-3879 or mmarks@adrian.edu.
Reservations are still available, but the total number
of participants will be kept low to ensure more individual
attention.
Adrian has a thriving music
department. It has a growing musical theatre program,
and recently added a marching band program. In March,
the choir performed at Carnegie Hall to great acclaim.
