Sophomore Karen Kassuba (Cadillac)
pours hexane vapor down a ramp, and after it is ignited at
the bottom, it rises back up.

Junior Kirk Cleland (Rochester Hills) jokes with Ester Rennhack,
age 5, before letting out the water from an inverted cup he
holds on her head. Much to Ester's surprise, the water had
been turned to gel with a liquid-absorbing powder.

ADRIAN
COLLEGE PRESENTS "MAGIC OF SCIENCE" SHOW
posted

Adrian College chemistry students
had plenty of tricks up their sleeves at this year's
"The Magic of Science" show, held in Dawson
Auditorium on Nov. 21. The fun and educational show
was open to the public. Here's a sample of the chemistry
action.

Junior Derek Jauss (Metamora)
watches the foam fly in his experiment dealing with
the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. |
Below: Freshman Ben Rosenbrook
(Stryker, Ohio) watches as Junior Regina Sartin
(Detroit) lights his $20 bill on fire. Because the
bill had been dipped in a mixture of rubbing alcohol
and water, it didn't actually burn. |

| In "The Rainbow
Connection," Junior Andrew Stewart (Montrose)
puts on a colorful show using changes in acid-base
indicators. Thanks to reverse reactions, he changed
the flasks of liquid from clear to colors and back
to clear again, all the while keeping in time with
the familiar song from the Muppet Movie. |
