KOREAN ARTIST DISPLAYS WORK posted 10/23/02

An exhibit in the Heritage Room of Shipman Library features the work of Korean artist Mee Kyung Shim. The exhibit opens Tuesday, Oct. 22 and continues through Friday, Nov. 15.

Mee came to the U.S. to attend graduate school. She finished her MFA in painting at Wayne State University in 1999 and has lived in Fort Wayne, Ind., for two years. She works in oil over acrylic and collage, on canvas. Her paintings reveal mastery of figure drawing and painting, and are about reconciling two cultures and finding her place as a hybrid of both.

She has been exhibited in many venues, including the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. She currently has a show at the University of Alabama in addition to her show here.
Mee will be in the Heritage Room from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct 23, to talk about her work.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Library hours are Sunday noon to 11 p.m., Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
