Adrian closes in on funding for
area’s only indoor facility
When Adrian College announced its
commitment to bring this area its only indoor ice arena,
some wondered if the money could be raised.
It will soon be time to lay those
worries aside. The College is on track for success,
announcing this week that $4.5 million of the needed
$5.5 million has been secured.
“I’m very
pleased that we’ve come so far toward our goal,”
said Dr. Jeff Docking, Adrian College president. “The
generosity of our donors demonstrates their faith in
a better Adrian College, and in a community with better
recreational opportunities.”
The arena will be open for use
by community members. It will be an important center
of activity in the region. Furthermore, it will help
to attract new families to the area, and could become
a strategic selling point for bringing in new industry.
“This endeavor is a partnership.
It is an investment in the quality of life in Lenawee
County,” Docking said. “Such a major project
will require a community-wide effort. I am especially
asking for support from corporations, foundations, and
possibly the city, to enable us to begin construction
immediately to get students and community members out
on the ice.”
