COMMUNITY INVITED TO CELEBRATE ADRIAN COLLEGE HOMECOMING

ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College is excited to announce its “See you at the Dawg House Homecoming 2006” from Friday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 15. There are many great events designed for the community. Note: Unless otherwise noted, all events free and open to the public.

Throughout the weekend:

BOOKSTORE: The Adrian College Bookstore will be open Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Check out the “AC Spirit Shop” at the stadium, too!

CAINE STUDENT CENTER: The Caine Student Center, located off of Williams Street, is open 24 hours. Be sure to check out the new Jazzman’s Café located in the student center for coffee and more.

SHIPMAN LIBRARY: There will be an art exhibit in the Heritage Room of Shipman Library, located off of Williams Street. The photography of Matthew Snead, class of 2002, and the porcelain works of Ann Vreeland, class of 1974, will be showcased. The exhibit is scheduled to be open Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon – 11 p.m.

STUBNITZ ART GALLERY: The 2006 Juried Student Art Exhibition, comprised of nearly 60 selected works of student art, will be showcased Friday from noon – 4 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon – 4 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 13

GOLF: The Adrian College Homecoming Golf Scramble is scheduled for noon at the Wolf Creek Golf Course. There will be food, prizes and merriment. The fee for this event is $180/foursome and tee times are from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

SOCCER: Check out the women’s soccer team as they compete against Olivet College in the new stadium located off of Charles Street. General admission is $5 with a discounted rate of $2 for seniors 60+ and youth 10 and under. This event is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 14

BULLDOG RUN: A 5K Bulldog Run is scheduled through local neighborhoods around Adrian College. Participants are asked to meet in the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center lobby. Check-in is from 6:30 – 7:45 a.m. Participants will receive a Bulldog Run T-shirt and be eligible for prizes. The run is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. The cost is $17. MINI-CLASSES: Become a student again as Adrian College faculty present light-hearted lectures on a variety of topics. The lectures being offered are listed below:

10:30 a.m. lectures:

    • “Watch Your Language and Gain Confidence from Your Listener” (Avoid the most common speaking errors) will be presented in Mahan Hall, Room 110, by Dr. Don Kleinsmith, professor of English and business.
    • “Music and Society” (Exploring some of the influences that have shaped music in our world) will be presented in Mahan Hall, Room 107, by Mr. John Dodson, associate professor of music and director of the Adrian Symphony Orchestra, and Dr. Tom Hodgman, chair of the music department.
    • “What on Earth is Going On!” (Coping with ecological and personal changes in our environment) will be presented in Mahan Hall, Room 102, by Dr. Craig Weatherby, professor of biology.

11:30 a.m. lectures:

    • “Digital Photography for Dummies” (Tips to capture better photos with your digital camera) will be presented in Mahan Hall, Room 102, by Mr. Gary McDowell, mayor of the city of Adrian.
    • “Democracy in Action: How Average Citizens Can Influence Government” (Learn how you can get involved to make a difference) will be presented in Mahan Hall, Room 110, by Dr. James Hanley, assistant professor of political science.
    • “Laugh Your Way Through Stress” (A humorous perspective on everyday living) will be presented in Mahan Hall, Room 107, by Dr. Hank Cetola, professor emeritus of psychology.


LUNCHEON: A Homecoming Luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in Ritchie Marketplace. Come see what Adrian College students are enjoying every day in the “all new” dining facility. The cost for this luncheon is $5.75 for teens and adults, $4.50 for children ages 5-12 and FREE for children four and under.

CRAFT SHOW: Talented Adrian College faculty, staff and students will offer a wide variety of items for sale. This is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. This event is taking place at the center of the Adrian College campus off of Madison Street. Be sure to bring money for this, you’re sure to find something you’ll like.

SOUND STAGE: There will be a Sound Stage from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the center of the Adrian College Campus. New performances begin every half hour.

KIDS KORNER: Check out Kids Korner from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Children of all ages will enjoy activities including a mini-train, inflatable fun and much more! This event will take place at the center of the Adrian College campus off Madison Street.

COMPETITION: Walkin’ the Dawg is a newer event to the Homecoming Festivities, and is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. This event is taking place at the center of the Adrian College campus off of Madison Street. Community members are encouraged to bring their bulldogs or bulldog wannabes to strut their stuff before the game and vie for the grand prize. They will compete for the best-dressed canine. The winner will be crowned at 1:35 p.m. at the Adrian College Stadium. This year a division has been added for dogs of any breed. PARADE: Please join the Adrian College students, faculty and alumni at the bell tower as we begin our sidewalk route to the new stadium. Watch and listen for the Adrian College drummers as they lead the way. The parade is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

FOOTBALL: Cheer the Adrian College Bulldogs to victory against the Tri-State Thunder at the new Adrian College stadium located off of Charles Street. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. General admission is $5; seniors 60+ and youth 10 and under $2. The gates will open at noon.

POST-GAME PIG ROAST & PARTY: There will be a post-game pig roast and party. This event is taking place at the center of the Adrian College campus off of Madison Street. All are invited to partake. The cost is $11.25 for teens/adults, $7.50 for children ages 5-12 and FREE for children four & under. This event is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

COMEDIAN: As part of the Homecoming festivities, Adrian College Campus Activities Network will feature a performance by comedian Tim Young. The doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and Young is scheduled to take the stage at 8 p.m. Known for his inventive, off-beat and mischievous brand of humor, Young has performed at over 400 colleges across the country. He has headlined NBC's "Friday Night" and has been featured on MTV's "The Jim Breuer Show" and "Apartment 2F." He has also been seen at The Montreal "Just for Laughs" Comedy Festival and in New York City's Toyota Comedy Festival for three straight years. This event is open to the public and suggested for mature audiences.

Sunday, Oct. 15

PANCAKE BREAKFAST: A pancake breakfast is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in Caine Student Center. The price of admission is $5 for teens/adults, $3 for children ages 5-12 and FREE for children four and under.

HOMECOMING WORSHIP SERVICE: Adrian’s own chaplain, the Reverend Dr. Chris Momany, class of 1984, invites you to come to worship! His sermon entitled “The Gathering” comes from Zephaniah 3:14-20.

Join students, alumni and friends for this uplifting service as well as a performance by the Adrian College and Alumni Choirs under the direction of Dr. Tom Hodgman, chair of the music department.
