EXPERT TO DISCUSS HIP HOP CULTURE posted 11/1/02

The former executive editor of the popular hip hop magazine The Source will delve into hip hop culture on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 9 p.m. in Knight Auditorium.

Bakari Kitwana's presentation is titled "Translating Hip Hop's Commercial Success into Political Power."

In addition to working for The Source, Kitwana is also a former English professor at the University of Houston, and is the author of "The Hip Hop Generation: The Crisis in African American Culture."

The program is sponsored by Multicultural Student Services, Residence Life, Black Dynasty, the Campus Activities Network and the Cooperative Activities Board.

The presentation is free and open to the public. Knight Auditorium is located in North Hall, which is located at the intersection of Madison and Williams streets.
