WITH DISABILITIES TO PRESENT WORK
posted 3/2/05
Painter Cody F. Miller teaches art
to adults with disabilities at Art Bridge Studio, in
Columbus, Ohio. He is the man for the job: Cody has
cerebral palsy, and has spent a lifetime being creative
not only in making art, but in adapting the environment
around him to the needs of an artist. His work and his
students’ work will be on display in the Heritage
Room of Shipman Library from March 7 – 31.
Miller will visit campus on March
16 and 17. At 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, he will
speak about his work at Art Bridge Studio and display
some of the adaptive devices his students use. A reception
in the library foyer and Stubnitz Conference Room is
scheduled before his talk at 5:15 p.m.
All events are free and open to the
public.
On Thursday, March 17, Miller will
speak about his development as an artist in Room 102
of Mahan Hall from noon to 12:45 p.m. Miller’s
paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions
in galleries, art festivals, and museums in Ohio, Michigan,
New York, and Los Angeles. He received an Ohio Arts
Council Individual Artist Fellowship Award in 2002.
Art Bridge Studio, run by United Cerebral Palsy of Central
Ohio, has employed him as an art instructor since 1994.
The themes of his paintings come from his Christian
faith.
The exhibits and Miller’s talks
are part of Disabilities Awareness Week at Adrian College.
