ARTIST GLADYS NILSSON TO SPEAK AT ADRIAN COLLEGE posted 10/23/02

Gladys Nilsson, artist and founder of the Hairy Who, will speak at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 in Dawson Auditorium as part of the Adrian College Convocation Series.

Nilsson earned her diploma from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1962. She soon founded the Hairy Who, a group of Chicago artists responsible for initiating a funky style known as Chicago Imagism. Nilsson, who is a specialist with watercolors, has had many solo exhibitions and has been selected for public collections. Her work has been displayed at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, and the Museum of Modern Art in Chicago.

Now a professor of painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Nilsson continues to paint and display her work all over the country.

The convocation services are free and open to the public.
