RENOVATIONS UNDERWAY AT DAWSON AUDITORIUM posted 1/15/04

Update: The renovations described here were completed right on schedule in early February, and events are now held regularly in the building.

People who attend the many community events in Dawson Auditorium have some comfort to look forward to.

That’s because the auditorium is being renovated, and will soon have brand new seats. Workers are installing the cushy new chairs all this week.

The old seats were installed about 40 years ago.

There will be much more room in the auditorium after the renovation. There were originally 1,200 seats, and now there will be 1,000. The new seats will be wider on average and there will be more leg room, and an extra aisle and several new handicap-accessible seating options will be added. There will also be improvements to the lobby and to bathroom facilities. It will greatly improve the facility as a venue for such community events as concerts, seminars, graduations, awards programs and corporate meetings.

Renovations are paid in part by a grant from the Stubnitz Foundation. The project is scheduled for completion in early February. Any person interested in the College’s Adopt-A-Seat program may call 517-264-3168 for more information.

Dawson Auditorium is located on Charles Street on the Adrian College campus.
