New Academic Dean Dale Nesbary addresses the student
body at Convocation
ADRIAN,
Mich. – Who better to usher in a new school year
than the new head of academics?
When Dr. Dale Nesbary, Adrian’s
new Vice President and Dean of Academics, gives the
Convocation address two days after the start of school,
it will be the first time many students will meet him.
Nesbary’s speech
is titled, “State of the Art Academics: A Recipe
for Success,” and is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. in
the Adrian College Chapel on Wednesday, Aug. 30. The
public is welcome.
One year ago, the first Convocation
was given by another new arrival, Adrian College President
Jeffrey Docking. He promised new beginnings, and followed
up with a series of exciting improvements all over campus.
The changes are working. The student
body that Nesbary addresses will be much bigger than
last year, with a record freshman class that has come
in under Docking’s leadership.
Nesbary will build on this momentum
with some exciting changes of his own. Adrian seeks
to overhaul its academic programs, and Nesbary is leading
the charge.
Nesbary was formerly associate professor
of political science and director of the master of public
administration program at Oakland University in Rochester,
Mich. He earned a doctorate from Northeastern University,
a master of public administration degree from Western
Michigan University, and a bachelor’s degree from
Michigan State University.
Prior to his life in academia, Nesbary
held administrative and research positions with the
city of Boston, the National Conference of State Legislatures
and the Michigan Senate Fiscal Agency.
Classes start Aug. 28. Convocation
is the traditional welcome to the academic year. It
begins the Convocation speaker series, which this year
will bring in speakers as diverse as Mexican-born journalist
Alma Guillermoprieto and physicist Lisa Randall, author
of a best-selling book on string theory.
The annual teaching awards will be
presented during the ceremony.
Convocation is free and open to the
public. The chapel is located on Charles Street.
