John Esposito, a prominent scholar of political Islam, is the next speaker in the Adrian College Convocation speaker series. He is scheduled to speak Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 12:15 p.m. in Dawson Auditorium.

Esposito is a professor of religion, international affairs, and Islamic studies at Georgetown University, where he is also the founding director of the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. He is the author of more than a dozen books on Islam, including “Unholy War: Terror in the Name of Islam,” and “The Islamic Threat: Myth or Reality?”

Adrian College professor Muqtedar Khan – who is himself a well-known scholar of political Islam – has high praise for the speaker. “John Esposito is easily one of the world’s most preeminent scholars of Islam. His voice carries authority not only in the West but also in the Muslim World,” he said.

Esposito is often interviewed or quoted in the media, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN and network news stations, NPR, BBC, and in media throughout Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

His presentation is titled “Islam and Capitalism.” It is free and open to the public.
