The Adrian College Convocation speaker
series presents political and cultural columnist Eric
Alterman Wednesday, April 14, at 12:15 p.m. in Dawson
Auditorium. The topic of Alterman's speech is "What
Liberal Media: The Truth about Bias in the News."
Eric Alterman is one of the country's
leading experts on media bias and the author of the
recent bestseller “What Liberal Media?”
Alterman is a respected journalist and author, who has
written for Rolling Stone and the New York Times and
whose columns appear in The Nation. A senior fellow
of the World Policy Institute at New School University,
and an affiliated faculty member in the magazine journalism
program at New York University, Alterman holds a Ph.D.
in U.S. history from Stanford.
Alterman's extensive award-winning
writing includes Sound & Fury: The Making of the
Punditocracy (1992, 2000), for which he won the 1992
George Orwell Award and his It Ain't No Sin to be Glad
You're Alive: The Promise of Bruce Springsteen (1999,
2001), which won him the 1999 Stephen Crane Literary
Award. He is also the author of Who Speaks for America?
Why Democracy Matters in Foreign Policy (1998), The
Book on Bush: How George W. (Mis)Leads America (with
Mark Green, 2004) and When Presidents Lie: Deception
and Its Consequences (2004).
