NATIONAL THEATRE OF THE DEAF COMES TO CAMPUS posted 11/1/04

The Little Theatre of the Deaf will perform "Poetry in Motion" in Dawson Auditorium on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 12:15 p.m., as part of the Convocation speaker series.

The company is part of the National Theatre of the Deaf, which has been hailed throughout the world for creating theatrical magic that ignites the use of imagination. The Little Theatre of the Deaf is a smaller company of four actors, allowing for drama, comedy, intrigue or farce to make the literature come alive.

Distinguished by a unique theatrical style, performances unfold in two languages. By combining American Sign Language with spoken English, the company has created a new dramatic art form. This form speaks with voices of beauty and power: one for the eye and one for the ear.

This Tony Award winning company begins its program with a sign language warm-up. For those who know sign language, it entertains; for those who don't know sign language, it educates as well as entertains by providing an opportunity to learn some signs and have a greater understanding and appreciation of the program that follows.

Dawson Auditorium is located on Charles Street. (campus map)
