English professor Richard
Koch is one of a collaborating group of researchers who
recently published an article, "When State Policies Meet
Local District Contexts: Standards-Based Professional Development
as a Means to Individual Agency and Collective Ownership."
The article appeared in the June 2002 issue of CIERA Report (Center
for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement) and the June
2002 issue of Teachers College Record. The group also included
researchers from the University of Washington and the University
of Michigan.
In September, recently retired history professor
Roger Fechner read his invited paper, "Paper Currency
and American Independence, John Witherspoon's 'Essay on Money'"
at the colloquium "Money, Enlightenment and Nationality,"
sponsored by the Centre for the Study of Human Settlement and
History Change at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
A longer, revised version of the paper is to be published this
year in a collection of papers from the colloquium.

In September, political science professor Muqtedar
Khan accepted an invitation from the U.S. Institute
of Peace to participate in a conference in the Philippines.
He has also had a new book published by Amana Publications
called "American Muslims: Bridging Faith and Freedom."

Biology professor Craig Weatherby
received a second place award for an art piece titled "Leaning
Box of Maple." His work was part of the Award Winner's Show
at Spectrum Gallery in the Toledo Botanical Gardens complex.
"Riven," an installation by art professor
Pi Benio, earned a $250 Award of
Merit prize at the 42nd annual Greater Michigan Art Exhibition
at Arts Midland in Midland. Benio was the only double-winner at
the show. "Waxing and Waning," a collection of wire
and kozo paper shapes, won the Arts Midland Purchase Award. "Riven"
was highlighted in the last issue of Contact, when it was named
Best of Show at the Toledo Area Artists show.
Bill Tregea, professor
of sociology/criminal justice/human services, received a grant
from Michigan Campus Compact for the 2002-2003 academic year.
The grant funds a project that focuses on helping to develop business
on the east side of Adrian. Tregea's criminal justice students
are assisting him with the undertaking. more
AC Chaplain Rev. Chris Momany '84
will present "The Fellowship of the Spirit/Intersubjectivity
by Participation" at the Second Joint Meeting of the Wesleyan
Theological Society and the Society for Pentecostal Studies on
March 20-22.
