- Catholicism is the predominant religion
practiced by Adrian College students, based on 550 respondents
to a fall 2002 enrollment survey. In fact, 36 percent of responding
students were Catholic, while Methodism was second at 18 percent.
- The number of Adrian College students declaring
majors and minors in the philosophy/religion department has
increased dramatically and is at its highest level in 20 years.
- There are 10 religious organizations on Adrian's
campus-representing many faiths and modes of spiritual and social
expression. A.L.P.H.A. (African-American Leaders Promoting Higher
Achievement) is one such group. Past-president Area Underwood
received the 2003 Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Award. Area

- Renowned theologian James Cone, author
of "Black Theology and Black Power" and a former Adrian
College professor, spoke on campus in April 2002. Bishop Linda
Lee (bishop of the Michigan Area United Methodist Church) was
on campus three times last year (highlighted by her keynote
address at Commencement). Bishop Leontine T. C. Kelly-the first
African-American female bishop elected in any major religious
denomination-will speak on campus in April 2003.
