1940s
Carlton Dettman
'48
received an award from the Michigan State Medical Society for
having practiced medicine for 50 years. He received his medical
degree from the University of Michigan in 1952, after completing
his pre-medical degree from AC. Carlton began practicing medicine
in Montrose following his discharge from the U.S. Army. He and
his wife, Gloria Beebe Dettman '48,
live in Montrose, where he continues to practice medicine, and
Gloria works as his office manager.
1950s
Fred "Fritz" Pinkerman '59 recently retired after
43 years of teaching. His assignments included Bedford Public Schools in Michigan, and Lucas County Educational
Services in Ohio. He also retired from
his fishing charter service after 20 years on the Great Lakes. He and his wife, Sylvia
McCracken Pinkerman '60, who retired
recently from The University of Toledo, plan to visit their children
in Pennsylvania and North Carolina, as well as various relatives
throughout the United States. Fritz has already expanded
his fishing experiences to include a fly-in trip to Canada with his son-in-law and
grandson and a tarpon tournament in Boca Grande, Fla. Fritz and Sylvia live
in Temperance, and would enjoy hearing from old friends at pinkerman@aol.com.
1960s
Benja Sides Filkill '64, and grandson
Ryan, visited campus during their annual drive from their home
in Texas to their summer home in
northern Michigan. Benja is proudly
holding the Adrian College Scholarship cup, which she was awarded
in 1964. This cup is awarded to students who earned a 4.0 grade
point average for four consecutive years.
1970s
Ted Johnson '72 is the new director and head of marketing for
El Pescador Fly Fishing Resorts in Belize, Central America. He invites everyone to
visit their website at www.elpescador.com. Ted reports that the
fishing is great; this is his best use of his biology degree yet!
Connie Grimes Llewellyn '73 recently moved to Fremont, where she teaches fourth
grade. She earned her master's degree in reading, and has three
children, Garth, Morgan and Emily.
The Dexter Leader reports that in August, then-Governor John Engler named Timothy "T.J." Spencer '73 to the
Michigan Board of Chiropractic.
During his three-year term, he will help to regulate chiropractic
therapy in the state. Spencer's chiropractic practice is in Dexter,
where he resides with his wife Brooke.
Deborah Keppers Lonon
'77
was recently invited to join the faculty of the International
Institute for Readers Theatre in London. For two weeks each July,
she will be teaching scriptmaking, oral
interpretation, directing and other Readers Theatre techniques
to a group of international students at King's College. For the
past three years, Deborah has served as department chair of English/communications
at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in Asheville, N.C. This fall, she was asked
to head the Quality Enhancement Planning component of that institution's
upcoming accreditation process. Deborah lives in Mation,
N.C, with her husband, Dr. Bill Lonon,
and son Christopher, 12. She is a frequent visitor to New York City, where best friend Don
Carroll '76 lives.
Weddings
Rebecca Limbird '73 and Stephen Rohre were married June
30, 2001, during an outdoor wedding at the St. Clair Inn in St. Clair. Becky
is employed by the University of Michigan, as the personnel representative
for the plant building services department of the facilities and
operations division. The couple lives in Ypsilanti.
1980s
Carol Andersen '82 has returned to the teaching profession after
a 20-year hiatus. She is in her second year back and teaches Spanish
I and IV at Westminster High School in Westminster, Colo.
The U.S. Army promoted Dean Wiley '83 of Huntsville, Ala., from the rank of major
to captain during an October ceremony.
Robert King '83 recently began a new job with Bristol-Myers
Squibb in Lawrenceville, N.J., as a principal investigator
and head of the molecular biology group in the Division of Biopharmaceutical
Sciences and Technologies. In addition, he has recently started
his own business, Crown Custom Bonsai, in which he designs and
creates commissioned bonsai for the home and garden.
Glenn DeLong '84 and his wife Jeanne performed
in the musical "The Scarlet Pimpernel" in Windsor, Canada, in November. Jeanne played
the lead female part of Marguerite, and Glenn played the role
of the sinister villain Chauvelin. Glenn
is an emergency room physician at Mt. Clemens Hospital. The DeLongs live in Shelby Township.
Barb Fairman '85 was re-elected
for another term as treasurer for the Belleville Area Council
for the Arts board of directors. This past year, Barb has also
been involved with the Michigan Flute Orchestra, playing her newest
instrument, the bass flute. In her free time, she also plays on
a volleyball team and continues to be active with the Pontchartrain
Alumni chapter of the Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity, and will
be historian for this group for another year. She was one of the
chapter soloists at a joint recital with another alumni chapter,
and is gearing up for the 100th |
