Jewell Hearn
Stevens '30 celebrated her 95th birthday Dec. 27. Jewell,
who lives in Garland, Texas, has four children and 11 grandchildren.
She is shown with her 21st great-grandchild, Benjamin Zimel.
1950s
Robert Florian
'51 retired in 2000, after 42 years on the faculty at Sakm
College/Salem-Teikyo University in West Virginia. Bob continues
to serve as a United Methodist minister (in the retired relationship
in the West Virginia Conference), heading a three-man team serving
a five-point rural circuit. He and his wife, Barbara Walker
Florian '53, recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
1960s
Milton Gilbert
'67 was appointed district superintendent of the Goldsboro
District of the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist
Church, in July. Milton and his wife, Lucretia, are the parents
of two sons, Milton Heath Jr. and Mark Raymond. A United Methodist
pastor in the North Carolina Conference for 34 years, Dr. Gilbert
also serves as vice chairperson of the board of trustees of Louisburg
College, where he was a former professor.
1970s
Deborah Keefer
Kendrick '71 graduated Oct. 6, with a golden retriever guide
dog named Jonelle. The duo completed two weeks of intensive training
at Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc., in San Rafael, Calif. Deborah
and her husband, Kevin, and two daughters live in Cincinnati,
Ohio, where she writes the Alive and Well column for the
Cincinnati Enquirer. Deborah is also a contributing editor
for AccessWorld magazine.
Michael Matheny
'75 was re-elected to his third term as mayor of Grand Blanc.
Mike was also recently elected vice president of the Michigan
Association of Mayors, having served on the board since 1999.
In October, he was presented the Promoting Active Cities Award
by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness for his commitment
to health and fitness in the city of Grand Blanc.
Kurt Darrow
'77 was named president of La-Z-Boy's residential division.
Kurt, previously senior vice president of sales and marketing,
has been employed with La-Z-Boy for 22 years. He and his wife,
Renee, live in Monroe.
Nathan '78
and Lori Fireoved Weaks '79 were featured in Farmland News
in August because of two young Morgan horses they own that may
be a rare gray variety. The article stated that fewer than 20
grays may exist in the world. The Weaks live with their three
children Lindsay, Evan and Ariel in Swanton, Ohio.
1980s
Robert Wentworth
'80 was appointed director of sales and marketing for the
new Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa in Huntington
Beach, Calif.
Teri Davis
McCormick '82 was elected president of the Barnstable County
Bar Association. Teri and her husband, Jack, practice together
at their firm, McCormick & McCormick, in Orleans, Mass., and
have two children, Katie, 11, and Michael, 8. A large part of
Teri's practice is in divorce mediation and she spends much of
her late afternoons chauffeuring the children to their many activities.
Teri and Jack are continuing their quest to visit all 50 states,
so the family won't be making their usual trek to Florida this
winter and will miss visiting with Florida AC pals Paula Annesser
Suarez '81 and Pam Schleiger Rupkey '82 and their families.

'86 recently reported for duty at National Naval Medical Center,
in Bethesda, Md.
Tamara Adams
Stubbs '86 was nominated for one of the Governor's Public
Safety Awards. She is a senior parole officer with the State Board
of Pardons and Paroles in Putnam County, in Milledgeville, Ga.
Samantha Spicer
Platzke '87 has been named senior vice president and chief
financial officer of Mercy Health Partners, located in Toledo,
Ohio. Most recently, Samantha served as regional vice president
and chief financial officer of the Metro Hospital Division of
Mercy Health Partners.
1990s
Jaime Balboa
'91 successfully directed the campaign in Oregon to defeat
an anti-gay ballot measure in November 2000. He currently is working
on his Ph.D. at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, works
with homeless and runaway youth in San Francisco, and is the political
consultant for the Pink Triangle Coalition, which works on behalf
of gay and lesbian victims of Nazis. Jaime and life partner Todd
Presner live in San Francisco, and would enjoy hearing from friends
at jaime_balboa@hotmail.com.
Dr. Munazza
Mian '93 has joined the Midwest Eye Surgical Center in Adrian,
where her father, Dr. Muhammad R. Mian, has been in practice for
15 years. Munazza traveled to Pakistan last spring, where she
used the latest techniques to perform free cataract operations
for the less fortunate.
Marcy
Hiner Faurote '95 passed the registered nurses exam and
now works in the birthing unit at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Marcy lives in Huntington, Ind.

Karen Sorenson
'01 is co-director of a production at the Little Traverse
Civic Theatre in northern Michigan. The show, "Too Soon For
Daisies," opens Feb. 14.

Brown '83 and husband Curt announce the birth of Lauren Anne,
July 6. Curt and Angie are employed by Comerica Bank and live
in the Brighton area.

Marshall '83 and husband David announce the birth of Victoria
Angela, born July 19. She joins brother Zachary Alexander, 2.
Laurey is an optometrist in private practice, and David is a corporate

'87 and wife Vicki announce the birth of Alana Elizabeth,

4. Derek is employed with the Internal Revenue Service, and Vicki

Jaclyn Marie, born Feb. 16, which is also Doug's birthday. She

Sedlak Anderson '93 and her husband Thomas announce the birth
of Hans Olaf, born Dec. 7, 2000. Catherine is on extended leave
from her position as a business area manager for a web-based,
instructional design team for Raytheon Systems Corp. Thomas is
a project manager for Gator Construction. The Andersons live in
Livonia.

Przepiora Smith '96 and husband Kevin announce the birth of
their daughter, Claire Abigail, born May 5. Cat is employed as
a sales supervisor at The Oakland Press, and Kevin is a senior

Buhl, born April 16. Dan teaches fifth grade at Spencer Elementary

'90 and Wendy Hill were married Oct. 7, 1999, in Grand Rapids.
They have three children and are expecting their fourth in March.

'93 and Kent Anderson were married Aug. 10, in Freeland. Laura
is a registered dietician at St. Alphonsus Nephrology Center.
Kent is employed as a mechanical engineer at CSHQA Architects

Allan Gladieux
'96 and Michele Vershum were married April 28 in Swanton,
Ohio. Allan is a seventh grade English teacher and an assistant
high school football coach. He completed his master's degree in
December 2000. Michele teaches business classes at the high school
in Archbold. Aaron Gladieux '95 twin brother of the groom,
served as best man. Duke Barr '95 also served in the wedding
party. The couple live in Archbold, Ohio.
Rosanne DiZazzo
'97 and A. Carey Miller '97 were married April
21, in Detroit. Carey is a life insurance agent specializing in
estate planning at Sagemark Consulting in Southfield. Rosanne
received a master's degree in occupational therapy from Eastern
Michigan University, and is pursuing a Ph.D. from Nova Southeastern
University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She is employed at Special
Tree Neuro Care Rehabilitation Center as an occupational therapist.

wife, Britney Wendt Hyde '97. In attendance were Dan

probation officer for the State of Michigan. The couple lives

'99 and Aaron Klotz '98 were married July 14 at St.
Issac's Parish in St. Clair Shores. Aaron is currently employed
at Adrian College were he is the head equipment manager and assistant
baseball and football coach. Alison is teaching special education
at Onsted High School. Jamie Carter '99 was a bridesmaid.

OBITUARIES
William Mull
'32 died July 20. Bill was employed for Baker Simon in Detroit
for 11 years, as well as for the New York Central Railroad, Stubnitz
Green, and United Trucking Service in Adrian. One daughter, four
grandchildren and two sisters survive him.
C. Jarvis
Wotring '39 died July 16. Jarvis was retired as director of
student teaching at Central Michigan University. His wife, Violet
Burk Wotring '41, two daughters, four grandchildren and a
great-granddaughter survive him.
Ruth Harris
Ryznar '40 died Oct. 14. Ruth, a former elementary teacher
in Adrian and St. Clair Shores, was preceded in death by her husband,
Michael Ryznar '36, and brother, Robert Harris '35.
Two daughters, sister-in-law Mary McElroy Harris '35, of
Morenci, and three granddaughters survive her.
Earl Minster
'50 died Nov. 15. Earl was a retired corrections specialist.
Matilda, his wife of 50 years, and two daughters survive him.
Barbara Brown
Johnson '53 died Nov. 17. Barbara was a former home economics
teacher and resident of Brooklyn. Her husband, Edward, one son,
one daughter and a grandson survive her.
Warren Reed
'53 died Oct. 29. Warren was the owner of Warren H. Reed Inc.
Masonry Contractors in Palmyra, for 26 years and of Boden Masonry
of Nokomis, Fla. He retired in 1997. His wife, Harriette Calkins
Reed '48, a son and three daughters survive him.
Ned Spencer
'53 died Aug. 27. Ned retired from the Birmingham school district
after 42 years of service. He was a Dixieland Jazz enthusiast,
playing aboard the Delta Queen in New Orleans and at many Detroit
and Toledo locations. A son, a daughter and five grandchildren
survive him.
Daisy Crumback
Bender '67 died Sept. 17. Daisy had been a teacher at Wylie
Middle School.
Jerry Hebb
'68 died July 25. Jerry was executive vice president of Tecumseh
Corrugated Box Co. His wife Nancy, two daughters, and two grandchildren
survive him.
Karen Marsh
Knowles '71 died Aug. 13. Karen, children's choir director
at First Lutheran Church of Malden, was a former first grade teacher
in Treverton, Pa. She was also employed by the Malden Co-Operative
Bank for 15 years in the mortgage department. Her husband James,
a son and a daughter survive her.
Mary Bertera
'82 died Aug. 10. Mary was a clinical psychologist. Her mother
Mary Bertera survives her.
Michael Pyorala
'90 died Oct. 28. Michael was an ATO member.
FRIENDS
The Reverend
Ronald Brunger died Sept. 29. He was active in the Michigan Methodist
Historical Society throughout most of his ministry. In this capacity,
he and his wife Florine made important contributions to the organization
and maintenance of the Church's archives at Adrian College.
Richard Werstler,
former AC dean of education and one of the founding organizers
for Phi Delta Kappa, was honored for his 50 years of membership.
Since his retirement, he has been working with communities to
develop hands-on experiences for children in local museums in
the Canton, Ohio, area.
