1950s
Ron Willnow
'54 was elected president of Friends of Historic Jekyll Island
(Ga.), an organization dedicated to preserving and restoring historic
buildings.
James
Masten '57 teaches part-time at Northwest State Community
College in Archbold, Ohio. James retired in 1991
after 31 years of teaching high school, then retired a second
time in 1998 after seven years at ICN Pharmaceutical. He and his
wife, Janice, live in Bryan, Ohio.
1960s
John Fundukian
'64 received the Charles E. Forsythe Award from the Michigan
High School Athletic Association. The award is given annually
to someone who makes an "outstanding contribution to the
interscholastic athletics community." John retired in 2001
following a 37-year career of service in teaching, coaching and
athletic administration at Highland Park H.S. (1964-71), Walled
Lake Community Schools (1971-88) and Novi Community Schools (1988-2001).
He has also served as a registered game official (primarily basketball,
track and volleyball) for 25 years.
Earl Higgins
'66 is now retired after working for the Pennsylvania Bureau
of Forestry for 31 years. He remains active in the Society of
American Foresters and the Pennsylvania Forestry Association.
Joseph Balsanek
'68 retired from the Minnesota State College and University
system at Inver Hills College last August. Elizabeth Blackburn
Balsanek '69 continues on the faculty at Eagan High School,
and recently wrote and published a book, "The History of
Eagan High School." Joe and Betsy live in Hastings, Minn.
James Fisher
'68 is a research entomologist with the USDA and a professor
at Oregon State University.
Charles Fowler
'69 was appointed to serve as district superintendent of the
Johnstown district of the United Methodist Church, in western
Pennsylvania.
Larry Olsen
'69, professor of entomology at Michigan State University,
gave a speech on integrated pest management at the Entomology
Society of America symposium in East Lansing on March 25.
Larry '69
and Lori Mellott Whiting '69 are now full-time missionaries
with CAM International. They left in March for Costa Rica to study
Spanish for a year, and hope to go to Honduras to assist in church
planting by using medicine as a means to enter a community.
1970s
Victor Onweller
'73 graduated in December from the Kirkhof School of Nursing
at Grand Valley State University with a master's of science in
nursing as a clinical nurse specialist in adult trauma and critical
care. Vic is supervisor of the nurse intern program for critical
care and surgery and is also a certified critical care registered
nurse.
1980s
John Szymanski
'80 is currently employed as a licensed real estate appraiser
in West Bloomfield. He worked the last decade in the modeling
and automotive marketing industries, living in Los Angeles and
Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. John lives in Pontiac and is beginning work
on his master's degree.
Scott Chesley
'85 recently appeared as a guest on Detroit radio station
WJR's "The Internet Advisor" show. The topic was how
Internet television is currently being developed and used in business.
He is shown here with WJR guests and MichiganGolfer.tv producers,
Art and Jennie McCafferty. Scott jests that after four years at
AC, a broadcast degree and nearly 17 years of normal life, he
finally made it to the broadcast studio in the Fisher Building!
Scott is vice president of development and marketing at the Otsego
Club & Resort in Gaylord. Scott and Michele Croly Chesley
'86, along with son Tyler, 11, have lived in northern Michigan

Robert Hummer
'85 is director of the Population Research Center and associate
professor of sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. The
PRC is funded by the National Institute of Health and focuses
on demographic, health and social research in the U.S. and throughout
Latin America. Robert's own research work focuses on the demographic
and social patterning of health in the United States and Mexico.
He is co-author of a recent book, "Living and Dying in the
USA," and approximately 40 journal articles. Robert lives
in Austin with his wife, Dawn Garner, and two daughters, Holly,
9, and Chelsea, 5.
Anne Majewski
Dybing '87 has retired as a pediatrician, choosing to be a
stay-at-home mom to Grace Margaret, 4, and Olivia Rose, 1. Anne
says she is busier than ever, and more tired than when she was
on call. Anne and her husband, Kyle, and children live in LaPorte,
Ind. She'd enjoying hearing from old AC friends.
Michelle Foster
'88 is teaching middle school science in Wayland and her Science
Olympiad team placed 17th overall in the state last year. Her
family has grown by two: foster daughter Jessica, 12, was adopted
in February and a newborn foster daughter, Lily, joined the family
last summer. Lily is now nine months old and doing well. Michelle
would love to hear from AC friends (fosterm@ameritech.net).
Robert Mang
'88 has been named product manager for non-ferrous materials
by Thyssen Specialty Metals, Carol Stream, Ill. He is in charge
of all sales and marketing in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Bob and his wife live in Livonia, along with their two children,
Kennedy and Griffin.
Kenneth Blake
Stark, III '88 co-authored an article in the Jan. 1 edition
of Water Conditioning & Purification, an industry trade magazine.
The article provided an overview of testing and certification
of water system components. Stark has worked at NSF International,
a public health and safety company, for 12 years.
Diane Churches
Beagle '89 earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
in 1991 from Michigan Technological University. She worked at
Precision Castparts in Portland, Ore., for seven years before
her employment with GE Power Systems in 2000. Diane is currently
a Six Sigma Black Belt (training in special business process management
techniques) with GE in Schenectady, N.Y., and is working on a
master's degree through Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She
is married to Joe Beagle and has two children, Tucker, 5, and
Jacob, 3.

Todd Shoudy
'85 and wife Debora announce the birth of twin boys, Travis
Daniel and Tiernan Patrick, born March 15. They join siblings
Tiffany Gina, Tristan Thomas and Trevor Kennedy. The Shoudy family
lives in Marysville.
Jean Gillespie
Kaczmarek '87 and husband Tom announce the birth of twin boys,
Nathan Robert and Justin Joseph, born May 12, 2001. Jean is a
stay-at-home mom. The Kaczmarek family lives in Sturgeon Bay,
Wis.
Jill Yaroch
Forrest '88 and husband Kenny announce the birth of Delaney
Jean, born Nov. 25. She joins brother Parker, 2. Jill is a stay-at-home
mom. The Forrest family lives in Warren.
1990s
Paul Buckingham
'91 recently served as co-chair and presented a paper at the
Science and Technology section of the annual meeting of the Michigan
Academy of Science, Arts & Letters. The Academy, whose founding
members included Adrian staff, is dedicated to scholarly exchange
through annual meetings and a quarterly journal of outstanding
papers.
Jeff Michalowski
'97 recently joined the firm of Cardelli, Herbert & Lanfear,
P.C. He will specialize in personal injury, product liability
and insurance defense. Jeff earned his law degree from Wayne State
University in May 2000.

Anthony '92
and Danna Higgerson Kontos '93 announce the birth of
Constantine Alexander, born Sept. 15. Anthony is an assistant
professor of sport psychology and motor learning, and Danna is
a stay-at-home mom. They live in New Orleans, La.
Liz Lozon
Broughton '93 and husband Steve announce the birth of Preston
Lee, born Feb. 27. He joins sister Riley Mae, 3. Liz is a stay-at-home
mom. The Broughton family lives in Shady Shores, Texas.
Ryan Glanville
'94 and wife Kristi announce the birth of Jack Matthew, born
July 3. Ryan is an attorney with Thompson, Thompson & Glanville.
The Glanville family lives in Ludington.
Heather Walker
Whitehouse'94 and husband Brad announce the birth of Walker Ethan
Scott Whitehouse. They live in Morenci, where Heather is a high
school English teacher.
Keri Hess
Johnson '97 and husband Jeff announce the birth of Reece Phillip,
born Aug. 14. Keri and Jeff are employed with the State of Michigan.
They live in the city of Wyoming.

Jenny Dobrovolec
'96 and Matt Zavadil were married Oct 13. Jenny is an attorney,
clerking for Michigan Supreme Court Justice Michael F. Cavanaugh

Chris is a certified public accountant with Plante & Moran,

Kara Kressbach
'98 and Raymond Lennard '99 were married July 28 in
Adrian. Ray is employed at the Jackson District Library as a reference
outreach librarian, and Kara is an intern architect at Siler &
Associates. She recently taught Principles & Practices of
Interior Design at AC. Attendants included Melissa Gallatin '03.

Amiee Mitchell
'98 and Lawrence Muzyk '98 were married Sept. 15, in
Rochester. Amiee is employed by Volkswagen in Traverse City, and
Lawrence is the plant manager for Cintas Corporation's Traverse
City operations. Attendants included Angela Miller '97.

BIRTHS
Dustin Reckner
'00 and wife Jennifer announce the birth of Hannah Elizabeth
on Sept. 11 at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian. The Daily Telegram
featured a story about Hannah's birth because she was born the
day of the terrorist attacks.
WEDDINGS
Cari Robenstine
'00 and Jason Mitchey '00 were married Dec. 29 in Genoa,
Ohio. Cari is a freshman English teacher and softball coach at
Monroe High School, and Jay is a supervisor at Pilkington North
America, in Clinton. Attendants included Ben Bauer '98,
Ed Herr '00, Jesse Barden '01, Tony Bolger '01,
and Courtney Bildner '02. Cari and Jay live in Lambertville.
Aubrey Repicky
'01 and Tomas Hajek '99 were married Jan. 4 in Farmington
Hills. Thomas and Aubrey currently reside in Fort Collins, Colo.,
while furthering their educations.
Deaths
Helen Hughes
Keip '29 died Feb. 23. Helen was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma
sorority and a former member of the Thorn Hospital Board in Hudson.
Her daughter, son and four grandchildren survive her. Her brother,
also deceased, was Lloyd Hughes '22, Toledo industrialist,
former AC trustee, honorary degree recipient for whom the SAE
house was dedicated.
Donald Clegg
'36 died Dec. 3. Donald was a former employee of GMC Motor
Company. Two sisters survive him.
Ralph Knight
'44 died Feb. 24. Ralph was a retired engineer with RCA. His
wife, Roseann, two sons and a daughter survive him.
Kenneth Tatlock
'45, formerly of Indianapolis, died April 1, 2001. His wife,
Jeanette, survives him.
JoAnne Herringshaw
'50, died March 19, 2001. JoAnne was a retired social worker
with the Head Start program. Her sister survives her.
Jack Puffer
'50 died March 11. Jack was employed at the Tecumseh Products
Co. for 30 years, later moving to Dallas, Texas, where he was
employed at Beckett Pump as vice president of sales. One
son, two daughters and six grandchildren survive him.
Jan Smith
Iatrou '52 died Feb. 18. Jan, a retired teacher, was preceded
in death by her husband, Jordan Iatrou '52. Two sons and
three grandchildren survive her.
Barbara Hiser
Andrews '54 died Nov. 4. Barbara was a retired teacher. Her
husband, Jerry Andrews '54, four children, her father and
a sister, Virginia Hiser Beaton '60, survive her.
Thomas Wright
'55 died Oct. 31. Thomas was a retired minister. His wife,
Ellen, three sons, David, Ronald and Brian, and three grandchildren
survive him.
Douglas Clapper
'56 died Jan. 26. Douglas was an entertainer/piano player
in the U.S. for many years, performing as "Doug McNeil."
Murielle Scott
Frautschi '57 died Jan. 15. Murielle was employed for 28 years
at Addison Community Schools as a teacher and administrator.
Ruth Barnes
Bovee '60 died March 8. Ruth was a retired first-grade teacher
from Sand Creek Elementary School. One son, three grandchildren,
six great-grandchildren, and one sister survive her.
Juanita DeMeritt
'61 died Feb. 22. Juanita was a retired teacher from Morenci
Elementary School. Three daughters, Mary Yenor, Elva Evers and
Margaret DeMeritt Beaverson '61, nine grandchildren, 12
great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson survive her.
Paul Zeno
'65 died Nov. 20. Paul finished his career as general manager
and COO of the Quechee Land Owners Assn. in Vermont. He was an
avid sports fan and member of the SAE fraternity. His wife Genelle,
a daughter, stepson, mother and four sisters survive him.
Karen Sue
Marsh Knowles '71 died Aug. 13. Karen was an employee of the
National Society of Colonial Bank. Her husband, James, and children,
Stephen and Laura, survive her.
Friends
Selma Larson,
who retired from her position as AC alumni office secretary in
1979, recently received the Laura Haviland Award from the Lenawee
Human Services Council for her work as an advocate for Lenawee
County senior citizens. The annual award recognizes outstanding
contributions in the field of human services.
Phillips Moulton,
professor of religion and philosophy at AC from 1965 to 1976,
died Jan. 9, at the age of 92. After his retirement in 1976, he
was a visiting scholar at the University of Michigan for the next
17 years. Phillips, former president of Wesley College, is survived
by his wife Mary, children Katharine and Lawrence, and two grandchildren.
Eugene Ransom,
chaplain and instructor of religion and philosophy at AC from
1979 to 1981, died Dec. 27. Surviving are his wife, Jeanne, who
lives at the Chelsea Methodist Center, and five children.
Sue Herner Sopa (AC's director
of annual giving 1988-93) is now the director of advancement at
Maumee Valley Country Day School in Toledo after spending six
years at Bowling Green State University. She and husband John
have two children, Elyse Marie (6) and Alaina Grace (2). Sue would
love to hear from some of her former phonorama and senior class
