100 Years Ago- Fall 1901
The 1900-01 Adrian College Catalog
explained, "It is the purpose of the management of Adrian
College to provide
a pleasant home, as well as the best instruction for the students
in attendance. The home accommodations include room (furnished,
heated, and lighted) and good board, for which the total charges
are $42.00 per term."
In regard to rules, the catalog stated, "During
the hours set apart for College exercises, it is not in order
for students to linger about the grounds, or to visit the rooms
of others without special permission obtained from the President
or Preceptress (a teacher)."
50 Years Ago- Fall 1951
Adrian's
enrollment was 240 students (180 men, 60 women).
From the College World: "The New York Central Railroad
publishes a series of dining cart menus which depict colleges
and universities located along the route served by New York Central.
This autumn Adrian College
will appear in picture and brief story form on the menus."
An ad in the College World from Typewriter Sales
and Service Company read, "Students! If you want A's and B's,
get a Smith-Corona Portable. Rent at $4.00/month; buy at $5.00/month."
25 Years Ago- Fall 1976
Writing in the College World, Sue Rodgers tells
about the "painful experience" of making that bi-annual trip to
the bookstore to purchase semester textbooks. She wrote out a
check for $57.78.
Brownsville Station made an appearance on campus.
The band appeared in concert at Dawson Auditorium and performed
their million-selling single, "Smokin' in the Boys' Room."
