Adrian College Student Ventures to Chicago for Unique Experience posted 11/17/10
Merissa Seefried works with top interior design firm Crusiet Interiors in Chicago during summer internship

While most students spend their summer working at the local restaurant, golf course, or ice cream shop, Merissa Seefried spent her summer working at one of Chicago’s most well-known and admired interior design companies.

Working for the highly sought after interior design company Crusiet Interiors, Seefried was able to gain a great deal of credible experience within her chosen career field.

Crusiet Interiors, known for its design connections with venues such as the Hilton Hotel, BCBS Building, and The University of Illinois, she was able to connect with a network of successful individuals.

“Getting hands on experience is crucial in what employers look for,” Seefried says. “I was able to network with a lot of professionals. There is so much art and so many designers in the city; it was great!”

Currently embarking on her senior year at Adrian College with a degree in interior design, Seefried was able to take a lot away from her experience.

“I learned how to work with different types of people,” says Seefried. “I know now that in order to get what you want out of an internship, you are responsible to make that happen.”

For Seefried, the key was getting a unique experience away from her college town.

“Dream Careers allowed me the opportunity to live and work in a big city,” Seefried noted. “Doing an internship away from home was a great opportunity. In my case Chicago was the perfect place to have an interior design internship. It opened so many doors.”

Seefried secured her internship through Dream Careers; a company who has helped over 10,000 college students pursue their career goals by hosting internship programs in elite cities around the world.

Merissa Seefried could have lived and worked at home this summer. Instead, she lived at The University of Chicago, worked with top executives assisting with design projects, and gained experience that will highlight her resume for years to come.
