Adrian College Receives $625,000 Gift From Sage Foundation posted 1/13/12
Funds to restore historic campus building constructed in 1860.

ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College recently received a generous donation from Sage Foundation to restore the oldest building on campus, Downs Hall. The academic building, constructed in 1860, currently contains the Theatre Department including: a student theater, dressing rooms, faculty offices and a conference room.

“This historic structure is Adrian College’s anchor to the past,” said College President, Jeffrey Docking.  “It served as a gathering place for volunteer soldiers during the American Civil War and was our campus chapel until a new one was built in 1964.”

This most recent donation follows a previous half million dollar gift from Sage Foundation to complete Phase I of the Down’s Hall restoration project.

This is the largest foundation gift in several years at Adrian College.

“This generous gift reflects the values of Sage Foundation and its President, Melissa Sage Fadim, by supporting education, preserving historic architecture, and giving students a quality facility in which to learn the dramatic arts.  Lenawee County and southeast Michigan will benefit from this wonderful gift for many years to come,” Docking said.
