ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College is pleased to announce the appointment of Lynn Schefsky to the position of Director of Planned Giving. Schefsky will report to Ron Reeves, Vice President of Development effective July 1, 2011.
Schefsky comes to Adrian College after serving as General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Chemtura Corporation (formerly, Crompton Corporation and Great Lakes Chemical Corporation) from July 2004 until January 2009. Mr. Schefsky joined Crompton after a 19 year tenure with The Dow Chemical Company, where he held increasingly responsible positions, most recently as Managing Global Counsel for Global Thermosets and automotive business law. Prior to that, he held various positions for Dow in CA, TX and MI. He spent ten years in private practice in Midland, MI. He has extensive experience in environmental issues, human resources, insurance and contracting matters.
Schefsky holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Adrian College, and graduated with honors from the University of Michigan’s School of Law. As he accepts his new role at the College, he will resign as a Trustee on the Board of Adrian College. As the Director of Planned Giving he will focus on developing planned giving programs and establishing those relationships. His responsibilities will include the incorporation of these initiatives to enhance the College’s endowment and scholarships.
“I am excited to be a part of the momentum and all that is taking place at Adrian College,” said Schefsky. “It feels as though I have gone full circle, being able to come back and to have an impact on an institution that has always had such a strong place in my growth and professional advancement.”
Schefsky went on to note that he would welcome the interpersonal attention and the interaction with alumni, both recent and longstanding.
“I look forward to joining the Adrian College community in this dynamic and challenging role.”
“Lynn Schefsky’s arrival at Adrian College will significantly enhance our ability to work with individuals who want to include Adrian College in their will and estate planning,” said President Jeffrey R. Docking.
“Lynn is a proven professional with over thirty years of experience in law and corporate relations. As an alumnus, he offers great passion and insight into the College. As a recent member of our board of trustees he is intimately familiar with our growth and momentum. He understands the significant role that donors play in our recent enhancements and he will be a great addition to our development staff.”
Docking went on to note that he could think of no finer person, or anyone more accomplished, to fill this role at the College.
“The development staff is excited about Lynn Schefsky (class of ’70) joining our team,” said Ron Reeves, Vice President for Development. “As an alum and recent Trustee, Lynn brings his vast knowledge of Adrian College, its vision for the future and its alumni to this role. Expanding Adrian’s planned giving programs and our John Dawson Society is vital to our College’s future in the long term.”
Schefsky enjoys golf and fly fishing when he has free time. He currently lives in Midland with his wife and son, who practices law there. His plans are to divide his time between Adrian and Midland as he takes on the tasks of his new position.
