ADRIAN, MI – The Adrian College community has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for its faculty and students affected by Monday’s fire. While the College immediately rallied to support and provide for those affected, the continued outreach from area businesses and the community has been astounding.
As was reported in breaking news, the Orchard Apartment complex adjacent to the Adrian College campus caught fire about 2pm Monday, August 29, 2011. While the apartment building is not owned by the college, the facilities housed several students and faculty.
Thirteen students and two Adrian College faculty, as well as two Sodexo employees who resided at 103 N. Charles Street were accounted for with no injuries reported. The College hosted an informative meeting for these residents Monday evening to discuss resources available to assist them in the coming weeks.
Adrian College immediately provided accommodations for these students and faculty as well as offering basic essentials from academic to personal needs including: toiletries, clothing, books, educational supplies, and Visa gift cards. On campus food service provider, Sodexo, has provided meals and other non-perishable food items.
Adrian College would like to thank the Adrian Fire Department and area emergency personnel for their rapid response and continued communication. The College also extends its appreciation to the community, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Carleton Lodge and Bixby Hospital for their support and donations.
For those wishing to provide donations, an account has been set up for students and faculty affected by this fire through the Cashiers office in Caine Student Center on campus. Non-perishable food and other items can be left with Campus Safety also located in Caine Student Center on Adrian College’s campus.
