ADRIAN, MI. – Adrian College’s newly accredited Athletic Training program is gaining momentum with 100% of their first cohort of students passing the Board of Certification Exam on the first attempt.
With a national average passing rate of 48%, a program with 100% of its students passing on the first attempt is a testament to the skills and preparation they are receiving in the classroom. The five students earning this accomplishment are: Lindsay Baic, Erin Laske, Joseph Flater, Katelyn Tuck, and Nicole Zynda. Each of these students has plans to practice Athletic Training, pursue Master’s Degrees, and attend Physical Therapy and/or Physician’s Assistant programs across the country.
The Athletic Training Board of Certification Exam tests students on prevention of injury and pathology, emergency care, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, as well as professional responsibilities. Students must graduate from an accredited Athletic Training Education Program and pass the Board of Certification Exam in order to practice as an Athletic Trainer.
Adrian College’s Athletic Training Program offers courses specific to cognitive and psychomotor content necessary for success in Athletic Training. Additionally, the students complete 5 semesters of clinical work with over 750 hours of experience before they graduate. Throughout this time, they gain experience with Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, and Medical Doctors.
The Athletic Training program has 23 students currently enrolled in the professional phase of the program. This past academic year, the College admitted its first freshman class for the 5-year Master’s Degree, with 67 freshmen expressing interest.
“I am so proud of the hard work our students, faculty, staff, and administration have put in to building the Athletic Training Education Program,” said Dr. Tina Claiborne, Director of Athletic Training Education. “The commitment of the community health care providers who selflessly volunteer to oversee our students has been an integral part of our program’s success.”
