ADRIAN, MI. –110 Madison Avenue is proud to announce they are the first salon in Lenawee County to offer a free wig bank for patients going through any kind of medical treatment that may result in the loss of their hair.

“Coping with hair loss is just one of the many difficult aspects of treatment that patients must deal with. Our goal is to provide patients with a free wig and wig fitting support in a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere,” explained Cindy Beaubien, owner of 110 Madison Ave.

Cindy felt compelled to initiate a partnership with Bixby Medical Center in creating this initiative at 110 Madison Ave. Her own personal experience in her battle with breast cancer made this a very personal and rewarding decision. Through a partnership with the American Cancer Society, all wigs can be provided at no cost to the patient.

Through the 110 Madison Ave.’s wig boutique patients can schedule an individual consultation for a wig fitting, pick out the style that best suits them and work with a volunteer to learn how to take care of their new wig. The Wig Bank is open during normal hours of operation, or by appointment.

Offering wigs in a wide variety of styles and hair colors, any patient is welcome to come in for a consultation. “We have all different styles and colors ranging from blond to gray and short cuts to long, wavy-haired wigs,” Beaubien said. “Patients can choose to keep the wigs or donate them back once they no longer need them.”

The Wig Bank is being supported in conjunction with The American Cancer Society. According to Catina Lowe, Coordinator, Health Initiatives, Great Lakes Division, Inc. the ACS values partnering and collaborating with community organizations to provide resources and services to patients in their local communities.

“There is only one wig bank in Lenawee County. We have several other wig banks in other counties, and the nearest ones are Jackson and Washtenaw Counties,” said Lowe. “As an American Cancer Society wig bank the salon must offer the service at no charge. We provide new wigs and some are donated and refurbished.”

She went on to note that as a woman goes through chemotherapy they lose their hair which is temporary in most instances. Rather than spending hundreds of dollars on an item they need only temporarily, the wig bank provides this service at no charge.
