"Writer's Block"

after 15 years
ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian
College Theatre celebrates the sesquicentennial
and homecoming by presenting a play written
by Adrian College alumnus Shaun Gunning '94.
The theatre department will perfrom Gunning’s
play “Writer’s Block” at homecoming,
Sept. 24-26, 2009.
A one-act version of the play was originally
presented on campus in 1992 and this full length
version premiered at the Mid-Town Manhattan
International Theatre Festival in the summer
of 2008.
Gunning had originally started
to write the play in Professor Michael Allen’s
playwriting class at Adrian College 15 years
ago. He kept working on it throughout the years
and finished it in 2007.
This comedy is about a playwright
who can’t seem to get started on his next
play. As his agent pressures him to meet his
deadlines and he sits at the typewriter to start
exploring ideas, those thoughts begin to come
to life on the stage.
Gunning held a reading of
the script in February 2008. A friend of his
who is a producer was at the reading and suggested
that Gunning submit the play to the Midtown
International Theatre Festival in New York.
It was accepted and performed in NYC last summer.
Gunning graduated from Adrian
in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English,
Theatre and Religion.
The performances of "Writer's
Block" are scheduled for Thursday, Sept.
24 at 8 P.M., Friday, Sept. 25 at 8 P.M., and
Saturday, Sept. 26 at 2 P.M. For this special
homecoming event, all seats will be $5.00 each.
Downs Hall is located off S. Madison St. on
the College campus. Further information may
be obtained by calling Professor Michael Allen
