Poet and teacher Joaquin Zhihuatanejo speaks at Adrian College posted 9/29/09

Poet and teacher Joaquin Zhihuatanejo will perform his spoken poetry on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7 P.M. in Dawson Auditorium at Adrian College.

Zihuatanejo is a Slam Poet or poet of the spoken word. Last year Zihuatanejo won the World Champion Slam Poetry Title. He also received the European World Cup of Poetry Slam.

Today, the award winning poet lives in Denton, Texas with his wife and two daughters, but he was raised in East Dallas with his Mexican grandfather. In his poetry, Zihuatanejo writes about his diverse experiences - living in the barrio, working in the garden with his grandfather, of his Chicano heritage and sacrifices.
