Performances on Sept.
27 to include a variety of big band arrangements.
The public is
invited to a free concert featuring the Adrian
College Jazz Ensembles 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm on
Sunday, Sept. 27 in Dawson Auditorium. The two
bands will perform a wide variety of big band
arrangements ranging from traditional to modern.
Selections include: Ray Bryant’s widely
recorded Afro-Cuban work song, Cubano Chant;
Libertango, Astor Piazolla’s
best known tango; Dave Wolpe’s setting
of Secret Love, written for the trombone
section of Les Brown and his Band of Renown;
Shiny Stockings, Frank Foster’s
composition for the Basie Band; Peg
from the album Aja, the first platinum hit for
the group Steely Dan; Freddie Hubbard’s
uptempo composition, Red Clay; Wayne
Shorter’s One by One, arranged
from the acclaimed Shorter Quintet recordings;
Spring Cleaning, a jazz composition
with New Age influence by Matt Harris; Flew
the Coop from Kris Berg’s “chicken
funk” series of compositions.
Dawson Auditorium is located of the Adrian College
campus off of Charles St.
