ADRIAN,
Mich. - The opening convocation at Adrian College

a wonderful event. It takes place on Wednesday,
September 16 at noon in Herrick chapel.
Dr. Horton is the Benjamin
Banneker Professor Emeritus of American Studies
and History at George Washington University.

of race in America and particularly the history
of the antislavery movement. He has appeared
on the History Channel, the Discovery Channel
and several PBS venues. He currently serves
as a member of the President's Abraham Lincoln
Bicentennial Commission.
Adrian College Chaplain Chris
Momany recently spoke with Dr. Horton.
“Dr. Horton telephoned
me the other day, and I was astounded at the
amount of research he is doing on the history
of the antislavery movement at Adrian College,”
said Momany. “He wants to engage us in
noting our history and bringing it forward during
the Sesquicentennial.”
Dr. Horton has served as historical
advisor to several museums in the United States
and abroad, including the Underground Railroad
Freedom Center in Cincinnati. Dr. Horton is
also an advocate of public history; he has been
