Husband and Wife Collaborate
on Art Show at AC posted
9/15/09
Wrestling Natures
on exhibit through Sunday, Sept. 20.
ADRIAN, Mich. - Patti Opel
and Tim Norris will be on campus at Adrian College
Thursday, Sept. 17 to talk about their multi-layered
show, Wrestling Natures, which is currently
on exhibit in Stubnitz Gallery through Sunday,
Sept. 20.
Opel and Norris, husband and
wife, work both independently and collaboratively.
When asked how two artists collaborate on one
work, Opel replied, "We battle it out until
someone gives in."
The enormous collaborative
paintings are part of the series Through a Crack
in the Lake which chronicles the battles of
ships, crews, and rescuers responding to wrecks
on the Great Lakes. In their independent work,
the painters deal in one way or another with
human beings' battles with nature. Norris's
work often chronicles the results of wresting
a living from the planet's natural resources,
while Opel's often refers to humans' struggles
with their own nature, as creatures of the natural
world and psychological creatures.
Thursday, Sept. 17, Opel and
Norris will hold a slide talk about the development
of their work from noon to 1:00 P.M. in The
Mahan Center for Art and Interior Design, located
on the College campus off of William St. A reception
will begin at the Stubnitz Gallery located in
Downs Hall at 5:45p.m. and continue through
7:30 P.M. where Opel and Norris will discuss
their work on display in the gallery starting
at 6:30 P.M.
Gallery events are free and
open to the public.
Gallery hours are Monday through
Saturday 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. and hours are
extended until 9:00 P.M. on Thursdays. This
show will also be open noon to 4:00 P.M. Sunday,
Sept. 20. Stubnitz Gallery is located in Downs
Hall on the College’s campus off of S.
