Adrian College Sounds
New Emergency Notification System posted
9/30/08
College will perform
campus wide drill on Oct. 8
ADRIAN,
Mich. - On October 8, 2008 at approximately
3:30 P.M. the Adrian College Campus
Safety Department will conduct a campus
wide drill of the newly installed Mass Emergency
Notification System.
Residents in the vicinity
of the Adrian College campus will hear a steady
15 second tone followed by a voice message that
will announce “This is a test of the emergency
warning system. This is only a test.”
This message will repeat for approximately three
minutes. At the conclusion of the drill, which
will last approximately 30 minutes, an all clear
message will be sounded and residents will hear
the Westminster Chimes for about 10 seconds
followed by a voice message indicating “The
campus emergency has ended. All is clear.”
The College installed the
emergency notification system in August. The
system is designed to notify the Adrian College
campus community of an emergency. Such emergency
situations include tornado warnings and other
potential dangerous situations taking place
on or in the vicinity of campus.
The system is also in response
to the tragedies that have occurred at Virginia
Tech and Northern Illinois. Before the system
was installed, the campus was notified of emergency
situations by foot, e-mail, and telephone. This
system will provide a much faster, more efficient,
and safer protocol in the event of an emergency.
The Adrian College Campus
Safety Department apologizes for any inconvenience
the drill may cause and asks for the community’s
cooperation in this matter. The drill will ensure
that the system works properly as well as teach
the Adrian College community safety procedures.
All questions may be directed to Jeremy Wolf,
director of campus safety at 517-265-5161.
