Professors Recognized for Excellent Teaching

Hammerle and McCleary with Teaching Awards
ADRIAN, MICH. — Adrian
College professors Dr. Keith McCleary and Dr.
Judith Hammerle have been recognized by the
college for their excellence in teaching.

Dr. Keith McCleary
|
The Teacher Excellence Award
was awarded to Dr. Keith McCleary, professor
of chemistry.
McCleary earned his doctorate
at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State
University, and his undergraduate degree from
Michigan Technological University. His professional
experience prior to teaching included employment
at DuPont, Hewlett-Packard, and Phillips Petroleum.
Since coming to Adrian, Dr.
McCleary has become a leader in and out of the
classroom. He has organized the “Magic
of Chemistry” show, an annual event that
brings young students to the campus to learn
about the wonders of science.
Dr. McCleary is highly respected
by students and colleagues for his commitment
to education, excellent teaching, and innovative
pedagogical style.
The Teacher Excellence Award
is sponsored by the Division of Higher Education
of
The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry
of The United Methodist Church.

Dr. Judith Hammerle
|
Dr. Judith Hammerle,
professor of psychology, received the 2007 Teaching
Excellence Award.
Hammerle earned her doctorate
at Indiana University and her undergraduate
degree at State University of New York at Stony
Brook.
Dr. Hammerle has been teaching
at Adrian since 1977, and will be retiring at
the end of this academic year. She is the part
recipient of Adrian College’s Outstanding
Service Learning Professor, which was presented
through Michigan Campus Compact. Dr. Hammerle
is actively involved in a local initiative regarding
domestic violence and arrests. She also holds
a private practice and is a member and past
president of Zonta International.
Dr. Hammerle’s students
describe her as fascinating, outstanding, and
the best professor they have had at Adrian College.
The Ross Newsom Award honors
the memory of Ross Newsom (Adrian College class
of
1936), and is sponsored by his sons.
The awards were granted
at the opening Convocation
ceremony on Sept. 9.
