ADRIAN,
Mich. – Adrian College welcomes Senator
Carl Levin (D – MI) as the speaker for
the opening Convocation ceremony on Sunday,
Sept. 9. The ceremony is scheduled at 2 p.m.
in the Adrian College Chapel.
In 1978, Carl Levin won an
upset victory over the number two Republican
in the U.S. Senate. He was reelected in 1984,
1990, 1996 and 2002. He is currently the chairman
of the Senate Armed Services Committee. The
many areas he is known for include the Whistleblower
Protection Act, the Taxpayers' Bill of Rights,
and the Ethics Reform Act in 1989. One of many
great services he has performed for his country
was to lead Congress' most in-depth examination
into the collapse of Enron. He has earned a
reputation as a strong supporter of our national
defense and as an effective waste fighter.
During his address, he will
discuss the conflict in Iraq.
Convocation is the traditional
welcome to the academic year. It begins the
2007 - 2008 Dr. James Borland Convocation Series,
which this year will bring in such speakers
as celebrated jazz artist Kathy Kosins, as well
as Stephen Hayes, political journalist and the
author of the only authorized biography of Vice
President Cheney.
The annual teaching awards
will be presented during the ceremony.
Convocation is free and open
to the public. The chapel is located off of
Charles Street, across from the Merillat Sport
& Fitness Center. A campus map is available
online at www.adrian.edu.
