“Great Schools, Great Prices” section
Adrian, Mich. – In its
2008 edition of America’s Best Colleges,
U.S.News & World Report ranks Adrian College
as 16th in the Midwest region in its “Best
Baccalaureate Colleges” section. Ranking
information can be found at www.usnews.com.
According to U.S. News, baccalaureate
colleges are those institutions that “focus
on undergraduate education and offer a range
of degree programs – in the liberal arts,
which account for fewer than half of their bachelor’s
degrees, and in professional fields such as
business, nursing, and education.”
There are 320 baccalaureate
colleges within four regions: North, South,
Midwest, and West. Forty-eight schools are included
in the Midwest. Adrian shares the 16th spot
with Franklin College in Indiana.
“We are very pleased
with this ranking,” said Dr. Jeffrey R.
Docking, president of Adrian College. “We
are listed ahead of a number of very good schools.
It feels good to know that the wonderful success
that we’re experiencing is being noticed.”
The College was categorized
differently this year, moving from “Best
Liberal Arts Colleges” to “Best
Baccalaureate Colleges.” The College was
expecting to move up considerably this year
in its former ranking, based on all the recent
progress. When Adrian was reclassified this
year, it ruled out a direct comparison to last
year’s ranking. However, the College rated
so well in its new classification that the recognition
is very rewarding.
Adrian was also ranked in
the top 10 for “Great Schools, Great Prices”
for Baccalaureate Colleges in the Midwest. The
ranking measures value according to academic
quality versus cost.
