College will formally
welcome the record-setting Class of 2011
ADRIAN, Mich. – With
a large and accomplished freshman class this
year, Adrian College wants to make sure to greet
the newcomers properly. The Adrian College Matriculation
Ceremony, scheduled in Dawson Auditorium at
1:15 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19, will give the
College a chance to do so.
Matriculation ceremonies,
an annual tradition at British universities
as well as some American colleges and universities,
is a formal recognition of new students enrolling
at the college and joining its community.
“The Fall 2007 freshman
class is the largest in several decades,”
said Dale Nesbary, vice president and dean of
academic affairs. “We are anticipating
great things from them before they graduate
in 2011, and have added this ceremony as a way
to say, ‘We’re glad you’re
here.’”
The ceremony is part of Welcome
Week, the orientation for incoming students
that is scheduled for the week before classes
start on Monday, Aug. 27. Residence hall check-in
for the new students begins at 8 a.m. the morning
of the Matriculation Ceremony. Parents, who
will say good-bye later that day, are invited
to attend the ceremony and will be acknowledged.
The ceremony will include
faculty in their regalia (formal robes) and
the president and other staff will give short
addresses.
