Band to Perform Free Concert to the Public

From Across Michigan to Host Concert at Adrian
College
ADRIAN, MI -- The Lions of
Michigan All State Band will be hosting their
pre-tour concert on Friday, July 3, 2009 at
the Dawson Auditorium located at Adrian College
at 7:00 PM. The performance is free and open
to the public.
The Lions of Michigan All
State Band is made up of high school aged students
from around the state and will be traveling
to Minneapolis in July to represent the more
than 13,000 Lions members in the State of Michigan.
“This year’s group
represents 34 different communities in the state,
ranging from as far south as Bridgeman and as
far north as Escanaba,” said Brian Shepard,
CEO for the organization. “We are excited
to kick-off our tour with the concert in Adrian.”
The band will be on tour July
4-10 and performances include Mackinaw City
and Gladstone, The Lions Clubs International
Convention in Minneapolis, the SS Badger and
the Cherry Festival Parade in Traverse City.
The band has also been selected to perform the
National Anthem at the Minnesota Twins/New York
Yankees game on July 8.
“This is such an honor
for our group to be selected to perform the
National Anthem,” says Roger Weyersberg,
director for the band.
The band will be among the
15,000 Lions members attending the International
Convention in Minneapolis. While attending the
convention, the band will also have the opportunity
to hear Former U.S. Secretary of State Collin
Powell speak, as well as present the flags of
the 205 countries and geographical areas that
have Lions Clubs. This year marks the 32 consecutive
year the organization has represented the Lions
Clubs of Michigan at their International Convention.
Previous Conventions have
taken the group to Osaka Japan, Hong Kong, Hawaii,
Boston and most recently to Bangkok, Thailand
in 2008. The band is currently working on plans
for attending the 2010 Convention in Sydney
Australia.
