Students Receive Scholarships

Foundation honors two Adrian College students
for academic achievements
ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian
College is pleased to announce Rebecca Battles
and Heather Downing are recipients of the Earhart
Emerging Scholarship, which is administered
by the Michigan Colleges Foundation (MCF).
Battles and Downing were selected
to receive this scholarship due to their academic
performance at Adrian College.
According to a letter received
from MCF, the program was developed to recognize
junior or senior students enrolled full-time
in an undergraduate degree program at one of
their 14 member colleges. Moreover these students
must be undertaking and completing an original
research program in anthropology, communication/journalism,
economics, history, language, philosophy, political
science, religion/theology, or sociology.
In addition, Battles and Downing
must apply to present their work at the Annual
Meeting of the Michigan Academy of Sciences,
Arts, and Letters.
Battles participated in spring
commencement at the College in April. She is
currently working towards completing her degree
in English Writing. Battles is a graduate of
Divine Child High School in Dearborn, Mich.
and she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold
K. Battles.
Downing graduated from the
College in December 2007 with a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Sociology. Downing is also a
graduate of Marion High School in Marion, Mich.
and she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
D. Downing.
The College wishes to
congratulate Battles and Downing on this special
achievement.
