Assistant Dean of Academic
Affairs AFFAIRS Announced

ADRIAN,
Mich. – Adrian College is pleased to announce
Dr. Agnes Caldwell, Associate Professor of Sociology,
Social Work, and Criminal Justice, will be promoted
to the new position, Assistant Dean of Academic
Affairs, on July 1st.
In her eleven years at Adrian
College, Dr. Caldwell has distinguished herself
as an outstanding educator and mentor. She has
demonstrated this most recently by winning The
Exemplary Teaching Award sponsored by the Board
of Higher Education of the United Methodist
Church at Adrian College in 2006.

Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs
Dr. Dale Nesbary as he moves the academic side
through Renaissance II, the enhancement of the
academic experience at Adrian College,”
says Caldwell. “We have an excellent faculty
and staff here at Adrian College and it will
be a pleasure to work closely with everyone
in realizing Renaissance II.”
Caldwell is the two time recipient
of Adrian College's Outstanding Service Learning
Award given through Michigan Campus Compact
and was nationally recognized for her work in
academic service learning at the International
Conference on Teaching, Learning and Technology
in 2007. Most recently, Dr. Caldwell served
as coordinator of the College's self study process
for re-accreditation through the Higher Learning
Commission.
Dr. Dale Nesbary, Vice President
and Dean of Academic Affairs, is eager for Caldwell
to start in her new position.
“I am very excited to
be working with her,” says Nesbary. “She
is one of the most talented faculty members
currently on board at the College.”
In her new position, Caldwell
will help enhance the relationships between
the faculty and administration. She will also
coordinate responses to accreditation and evaluation
agencies, establish innovative academic programs
including a faculty mentorship program, and
lead effective faculty and staff training techniques.
She will serve as Dean when Dr. Nesbary is not
on campus.
Caldwell earned her Ph.D.
from Wayne State University. She is a specialist
in race and ethnic relations, colonialism, social
movements, community organizing and development
and Northern Ireland. She is also the editor
of the ASA's Teaching Guide to Higher Order
Thinking in the Classroom and former chair of
the Midwest Sociological Society Committee on
Teaching and Learning.
Dr. Caldwell resides in Toledo,
Ohio with her family. She is married to Timothy
Wilson and they have two children Abigail and
Owen.
