College Jazz Camp Offers Free Concerts posted

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian
College music department is presenting a series of free
jazz concerts in connection with their second annual
Jazz Improvisation Camp June 25-28. Camp participants
will perform with jazz combos and attend sessions on
improvisation, building skills on their instrument,
jazz roots, Latin percussion, transcribing, reading
a fake book and getting the most out of practice time.
Master classes on individual instruments
are offered daily by the workshop faculty. Campers will
have the opportunity to work with Scott Kretzer (percussion),
Dick Lange (guitar), Pete Ford (piano), Aaron Keaster
(electric and acoustic bass), Brad Sharp (trumpet),
Scott Rogers (trombone) and Marty Marks (woodwinds).
Jazz concerts will be offered each
evening at 6 p.m. in Dawson Auditorium featuring both
faculty and guest artists. Monday, June 25 will feature
Dixieland Jazz; Tuesday, June 26 will be music from
Gerry Mulligan/Chet Baker quartets; and Wednesday, June
27 will feature the Tecumseh Civic Big Band with the
jazz workshop faculty. The Jazz Combo Celebration Concert
on Thursday, June 28 begins at 3:30 p.m. and features
student and faculty combos from the workshop.
The public is invited to all concerts
and admission is free. Donations will be accepted to
offset camp costs.
