Adrian College Lecturer Receives Prestigious Award posted 4/29/10
Dick Egli is honored for outstanding mentorship of public relations professionals
ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College is pleased to announce Mr. Dick Egli, lecturer in communication, accredited in public relations, will be honored with the Barry Gaskins Mentor Legacy Award at the National School Public Relations Association’s 57th Annual Seminar to be held July 11-14, 2010 in Charlotte, N.C.
This prestigious award recognizes a practicing school public relations professional for outstanding efforts in mentoring colleagues new to school public relations (PR); for providing counsel and advice on job success; and for assisting colleagues in their professional development by creating or providing programs and activities designed to improve PR skills and knowledge.
Egli was nominated by peers as the professional that made the most impact on his colleagues in PR. The Michigan Board of Public Relations School Association then voted and made the final decision. In the spirit of the award Egli will be able to grant a scholarship to the 2011 NSPRA Seminar to a mentee of his choice. The 2011 NSPRA Seminar will be held in San Antonio, Texas.
Egli has been a lecturer for Adrian College for 12 years, specializing in communication and public relations. During this time he received the Distinguished Service to Education Award from the Michigan School Public Relations Association. He also maintains a circuit of presentations as adjunct instructor for Michigan Association of School Boards.
After finishing his bachelor’s degree in speech and theater at Westminster College of Pennsylvania, Egli earned a master’s degree in communication with a business minor at Michigan State University. In an extended pursuit of academia, Egli has completed graduate work in public relations at Boston University and achieved accreditation with the Public Relations Society of America.
As an active scholar and professional, Egli is the president of “Egli and Associates,” a consulting and instructing agency in his field. He has also held the position of vice president for Michigan chapter of the National Speaker Association.
One of Egli’s most important accomplishments is winning the National School Public Relations Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. This high achievement is quite rare and it is extremely uncommon for a member of PRSA to receive additional awards. Egli is currently a board member for the TLC Community Credit Union, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Foundation, National Speakers Association-Michigan, and the Michigan School Public Relations Association.
The award will be formally presented at the Seminar General Session on Monday, July 12 at The Westin Charlotte. The General Session begins at 8:15 a.m. and Mr. Egli will be giving an acceptance speech at this time. In addition to the award and scholarships, Egli will be featured in the Seminar Program and in an upcoming issue of ‘e-Network,’ NSPRA’s member newsletter.
Since 1935, the National School Public Relations Association has been providing school communication training and services to school leaders throughout the United States, Canada, and the U.S. Dept. of Defense Dependents Schools worldwide. NSPRA's mission is to advance education through responsible communication.
