ADRIAN, Mich. – The
Adrian College theatre department is proud to
present “Romeo and Juliet” by William
Shakespeare, April 10-12 in Downs Hall Theatre.
This magnificent, timeless
drama is the world’s most famous tale
of “star-crossed lovers”. The young,
unshakeable love of Juliet and Romeo defies
the feud that divides their families as their
desperate need to be together, their secret
meetings, and finally their concealed marriage
drive them inevitably toward tragedy. This masterwork
has been capturing the hearts of audiences for
centuries.
The theatre department at
Adrian College has been fortunate enough to
work with a Certified Teacher of Stage Combat
through the Society of American Fight Directors.
Christina Traister has been working with the
students and choreographed the sword fights
in the play. She is also giving stage combat
workshops to the students.
Traister, who is on the faculty
at Michigan State University and is a classically
trained professional actress, was excited to
help.
“It was a very pleasant
experience working on the production,”
says Traister. “The students all worked
very hard in a short amount of time on the sword
fighting to make sure that it was safe and that
it helped to tell the story of ‘Romeo
& Juliet’.”
On Wednesday, April 9, approximately
70 students from Onstead High School will be
attending the final dress rehearsal at 8 P.M.
The performances are scheduled
for Thursday, April 10 at 8 P.M., Friday, April
11 at 8 P.M., and Saturday, April 12 at 2 P.M.
and again at 8 P.M.
The cost of tickets is $7.00
for the general public and $5.00 for students,
seniors and Adrian College staff. Downs Hall
is located off S. Madison St. on the College
campus. Further information may be obtained
by calling Professor Michael Allen at (517)
