Sigma raises money for Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society
ADRIAN, Mich. – The
Adrian College chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma presents
the fifth annual Rock the Cure Benefit Concert
this Saturday, April 5, 2008 in Dawson Auditorium.
All proceeds will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society.
The event starts at 12 noon
and will feature Low Budget Lush, Autojill,
Mea Culp, DJ Ruffdirt, and Lost in Life. Lobster
Claw, a band composed of Adrian College students,
will also perform.
Rock the Cure t-shirts will
be sold during lunch and dinner in Ritchie Marketplace
and at the concert for $5.
The 2nd annual Rock the Cure
Car Smash will also be held this weekend on
Friday, April 4 from 1-6 P.M. in the Phi Kappa
Sigma fraternity house driveway. An old car
donated from a local junkyard will be on site
for participants to hit with a sledgehammer.
Participants can take five swings for $1 or
12 swings for $2.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society is the world's largest voluntary health
organization dedicated to funding blood cancer
research, education and patient services. The
Society's mission is “Cure leukemia, lymphoma,
Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the
quality of life of patients and their families.”
Since its founding in 1949, the Society has
invested more than $550.8 million for research
specifically targeting blood cancers.
Phi Kappa Sigma raised nearly
$1,000 at last year’s event and plans
to make a larger contribution this year. This
concert is free and open to the public however
Phi Kappa Sigma will be accepting donations
at both events throughout the weekend. Dawson
Auditorium is located off Charles Street on
the Adrian College campus and the Phi Kappa
Sigma house is located on Williams Street across
from the Caine Student Center.
