AC Athletes give back to children in Lenawee posted 3/16/10
College hosts 3rd Annual Field Day

ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College and the YMCA of Lenawee County will sponsor its 3rd Annual Field Day for children in grades K-6th at the Merillat Sports & Fitness Center on Sunday, April 18, 2010, from noon to 3 P.M. The event is free to all participants and includes snacks. Free t-shirts are available to those who register early.

The activities include track and field events, an obstacle course, tug-a-war, soccer, basketball and dodgeball. Children in grades K-6th are invited for a day of FITNESS & FUN with Adrian College’s Athletes!

The Field Day, which is sponsored by Adrian College Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), had an attendance of 150 children last year. The event is a way for student athletes to interact with the youth of the community. Adrian College graduate Ted Crockett ’06, YMCA of Lenawee County program director, came up with the idea three years ago and works with SAAC in creating a fun day each year.

“It’s a great way for the athletes to give back and the kids have someone to look up to which is key,” said Crockett. “Seeing the athletes in their jerseys really creates the wow factor for these young kids and they never forget it.”

Registration deadline is Thursday, April 8. Registration will be accepted after this date; however, a t-shirt is not guaranteed for participant. Check-in as well as those registering the day of the event will begin at 11:45 A.M. on April 18.
