Empty Bowls Raises Over $11,000 posted 3/4/10
Final event March 21
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College Empty Bowls fundraiser has raised over $11,000 for Lenawee County Salvation Army's food pantry.
The last event, which was held at Adrian First United Methodist Church on Feb. 21, was another success. Students, faculty, alumni, and friends of the Adrian College Department of Art and Design, in addition to students in the department's Community Clay classes, created and donated the pottery bowls.
“The Adrian College community has a big, big heart,” said Pi Benio, professor of art and design at the College and coordinator of the Empty Bowls fundraiser. “It’s very exciting that the community has come together to raise over $11,000. I actually had a woman call me from Los Angeles to ask what we did to be so successful!”
The final Empty Bowls event for the 2009-2010 academic year will be held on Sunday, March 21, from 11:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. at Hudson's Sacred Heart Church Youth Group. Food is being donated by JR’s, Meijer, Stone’s Café, the Tip Top, ZZ’s Grill, Starbucks, The Hoagie Man Deli, and Sal’s Italian Restaurant.
Lunch, including the bowl, can be purchased for $10, $15, or $20. Patrons will be able to purchase chances to win “Uber-Bowls” by other artists at these events. All proceeds benefit the Salvation Army. The cost of the meal includes both the soup and the bowl it is served in.
